The Farm
Guatemala La Morena is grown in the rugged highlands of Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala’s most respected coffee-growing regions. Coffee here is cultivated on steep mountain slopes at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 1,900 meters above sea level, where warm days and cool nights allow cherries to mature slowly and develop layered sweetness.
This coffee comes from the La Morena Women’s Coffee Collective, a group of women producers who manage small, family-run farms throughout the region. Many of these women have been involved in coffee farming for decades, often balancing farm work with family responsibilities while maintaining deep knowledge of their land and crops. Their farms are typically small, and coffee is grown alongside food crops in systems that emphasize care, sustainability, and long-term stewardship.
Harvesting is done by hand, with cherries selected at peak ripeness to ensure quality. After harvest, the coffee is fully washed, a traditional method in Guatemala that enhances clarity and balance. Careful fermentation and drying help preserve the coffee’s natural sweetness and structure, resulting in a clean, approachable cup that reflects both the region and the dedication of the women behind it.
La Morena represents more than a place—it highlights the skill, resilience, and leadership of women farmers whose work continues to shape the future of Guatemalan coffee.
